We are no longer an active Unit. Please use this website for historical references. Thank you.
The Wellies Explorer Scout Unit is for teenagers aged between 14 and 18 years old. Since 2012 we have always been a very active Unit at the centre of the community in and around St. Andrews Ward in Hull. We are the home of Explorer Scouting on the Boulevard, Anlaby road and Hessle Road area of Hull.
Each week, Scouting gives over 460,000 young people the opportunity to enjoy the fun and adventure of Scouting whilst helping them to develope the skills they need to succeed, now and in future life.
‘Scouting provides a second family to lots of young people. It’s a safe place where they can aspire and grow.
Bear Grylls - Chief Scout
Mrs & Mr Dumas are our Unit Mascots who will pop up at our meetings and activities every now and then.
Explorers run at a weekly cost of £3. This is to cover the day-to-day runnings of the Unit such as rent, insurance, and upkeep. There may also be other specific costs such as for trips and camps but we try our best to subsidise costs through fundraising.
The official age for explorers is 14 however. You can become an explorer scout from 13.5 years old. So if you have a group of friends who are either older or younger there is flexibility to allow you all to come up at the same time. If you want to join our Explorer Unit then please fill in the form on our Join Page and one of our Leaders will get in contact with you.
Of course you can, scouting is open to all. If you would like to bring a friend that's ok, not a problem, they will be required to provide the usual contact details and an emergency contact when they first arrive.
Explorers have a uniform that consists of a shirt, t-shirt and our neckers that are individual to our Unit. We understand that buying uniform is a commitment and so we do our best to get cheaper second hand uniform to help families. All Explorer Uniform can be found on Our Uniform page.
We run on Thursdays weekly 7:00pm till 9:00pm at St.Matthews Parish Hall throughout the whole year up to the Christmas period. This means we carry on running during the school holidays and only take 2 to 3 weeks off at Christmas and New Year.
